A ceiling from centering alone. Corners, edges and surface can only lower the grade.

A little precision goes a long way.

What is centering?

Card centering is the balance between opposite printed borders: left/right and top/bottom. A 50/50 ratio means equal borders; a larger difference means the printed design is farther off center.

Could my card get a PSA 10?

Centering is one of four grading criteria, alongside corners, edges and surface. Centering Lab checks whether centering alone allows a PSA 10; corners, edges and surface must be checked separately.

What centering do you need for a PSA 10?

PSA publishes approximately 55/45 centering on the front and 75/25 on the back for a PSA 10. Both left/right and top/bottom must meet the limit for their face; this is a centering requirement, not a guarantee of the final grade. Centering standards.

How do I check my card’s centering with my phone?

Take the card out of its sleeve, place it on a dark background and photograph it from directly above, avoiding glare. Open the photo in Centering Lab, confirm or correct the card outline, then confirm or adjust the cyan cut lines and lime printed-border lines. This free centering tool and calculator works in your browser like an app, with no installation.

Is 60/40 centering good?

With a worst front axis of 60/40, the Centering Lab model allows PSA 9, BGS 8–8.5 depending on the other axis, CGC 9 and SGC 9 from centering alone. Back limits are wider: 60/40 allows PSA 10, BGS 10 and CGC 10; SGC has no separate numerical back limit in this model. BGS and CGC use interpreted limits and SGC is approximate; these ceilings do not assess corners, edges or surface.

Front or back?

Graders allow different tolerances on the two faces. Measure both for a combined ceiling. Choose the photo’s face when checking the lines, then measure the missing face from its box.

What about borderless cards?

On a full-art front there may be no consistent border to measure. Measure the back, or set the lines if you know the print geometry.

Where does my photo go?

Nowhere. Decoding and measurement happen on your device. No photo uploads, cookies or accounts. We count anonymous visits and actions on the tool and guides, plus aggregate API/MCP calls, without cookies, identifiers or saved IPs; we respect DNT/GPC. Only language, your chosen card size and onboarding tips are remembered locally.

What is Centering Lab?

Centering Lab is a free card centering checker that measures front and back centering from a photo and shows the best grade centering allows at PSA, BGS, CGC and SGC. It runs in your browser: photos are never uploaded. We find the card and the borders; you check them in a few seconds; then you get the grades.
